If you're just getting started as a photographer I'm sure there's no lack of enthusiasm, but after all the early mornings, golden hours and favours for friends, do you still find yourself stuck in safe mode?
These 5 practices will help you take your work to the next level:
1. Slow down and be deliberate. Pause and think for one beat. Even when you feel like you’re going to miss the shot. Rushing is the enemy.
2. Why did you choose that angle? Bend down. Move your feet. Get a ladder! There is a right place. Find that place.
3. Frame lower - the foreground is interesting too.
4. Get in closer - wide is often the safe option.
5. Details people - There’s a chip packet in your shot. Clean the glass if you’re getting up close and personal with it. Don’t wait for a stylist to clear their schedule, you are a visual authority, pay attention to the small things. Learn to take a shot in one go - don't leave it for post - who loves editing?
